The Blending of Advaita and Tantra
From Stillness Speaks.com
by Jean Klien and Francis Lucille
What is the “Instant before The Upsurge” that Jean Klien discusses in his advaita dialogues when referring to Bliss? What did he mean?
Many who have deeply inquired into the nature of reality can relate experiences of “un-locate-able”, ungraspable joy- the signature of a glimpse of our true nature, the perfume of silence. The full experience can be a complete departure, a “death” of the “I”, outside of time and space and thus, out of what we call “world”,
Called Nirvikalpa samadhi, it’s trademark is the complete absence of objects, in which awareness revels in boundless freedom. To try and capture the experience in words is futile; the event alters the entire landscape.
For some, a “contraction”, a re-emergence of the personal I, along with it’s suffering, may follow in which the abrupt re-entry into “time, space and manifestation” leaves the seeker befuddled and disoriented. The personal I and other conditioned behavior may re-emerge.
Recently, I was emailed a very sweet remembrance written by a former student of Jean Klein and Francis Lucille discussing these matters. It is special in that it walks with us through these profound discoveries and offers clarity as to the final destination.
One final point: this remembrance illustrates the importance of proximity to the guru. This critical aspect just can’t be stated any clearer than this.
Here is The Instant before the Upsurge. We hope you enjoy it.
