Everyone is talking about 2012, maybe because it’s already 2010 and 2011 is just around the corner. In any case, there seems to be a universal sense that some “apocalyptic” change is about to take place. On one hand, we have the Evangelicals talking about the “rapture,” and on the other we have scientists talking about the 6th great extinction. Interestingly, when we look at the original meaning of the word “apocalypse,” it meant “the lifting of the veils.”

A new book, Transforming Through 2012: Leading Perspectives on the New Global Paradigm, seeks to lift some of the veils on 2012 without waiting until 2013. The book is available both as a print book and a multi-media e-book, and contributors include Gregg Braden, Daniel Pinchbeck, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Jean Houston, and a chapter by Bruce Lipton and myself called, Spontaneous Evolution and 2012.

2012: Time for Change is a feature-length documentary, directed by Joao Amorim of Curious Pictures in New York and featuring Daniel Pinchbeck, the bestselling author of “2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl” (Penguin, 2006). At least two more films are in production that use 2012 as the iconic year for transformation. (The Shift and Shift of the Ages on which we will soon do follow up stories. Of course, we cannot wait until 2012 but the energy, intelligence, creativity and wisdom inherent in these films is here now. We are witnessing the ultimate meltdown from an era of greed and corruption and they are the compost for a rich organic soil in which a new civilization is being birthed even as the old one is in the process of self destruction.

Part of humanity, those who voted for McCain and Palin (46% of US voters) are clinging to old ideas that have kept us prisoners in a dysfunctional and dangerous paradigm built on scarcity or scare city. The new paradigm represented by Obama is field of possibility that we have an opportunity to energize and actualize in the form of socially responsible and visionary products and services that place people and the planet first and make a profit by honoring and serving life rather thank destroying it. I believe hybrid for-profit and non-profits could be the way of the future along with local currencies.

In any event, 2012 is a powerful future-present vision of whats possible and we will be covering the production and release of more new paradigm films, novels, artworks, music, products and services and other creative expressions, whatever their form, in the weeks, months and years leading up to 2012. More than anything, it is the spirit and energy of 2012 that is pulling us toward a future that works for everyone rather than the few at the expense of the many.

Be part of the revolution. Start thinking, and then talking, about The Next Society and how it might be organized. Start with the principles of individual liberty, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and respect for nature, then build from there. Soon, you may very well get the opportunity to see some of your ideas become reality.

I personally believe it is time to base our society on the power of the People, as in a true Direct Democracy where there are no Congresspeople or Senators. The People should vote directly on laws, ending corporate influence and lobbyists. Let’s end the IRS, the failed War on Drugs, the secret military prisons, the private Federal Reserve, the era of monopoly medicine and global military imperialism. Let’s end secretive government and Presidential executive orders. Let’s end patent protection for genes, seeds and medicines, declaring all such patents to be public property. Let’s give birth to a new society founded on individual liberties, sustainable living and progress focused on the greater good rather than obscene individual wealth.

Let’s take back our nation from the corporate and government criminals who are currently running it!

Now, those are just my ideas. You may not agree with them all, and in fact I hope you don’t! What we need are YOUR ideas (and other people’s ideas) to be part of the conversation in creating The Next Society. It will soon be time to put the new ideas on the table, throw out the old ideas, and create a new society. Consider: What hasn’t worked? What has worked? What makes sense today that didn’t make sense in 1776? (Like internet voting, for example, which eliminates the entire need for the U.S. Congress, since the whole idea of “representatives” was based on the need for remote representation of people living in far-off places without connectivity…)

Does our tax system currently work? Do you like the IRS? If not, what would work better? (The Flat Tax, perhaps?) Does voting work? Not very well. Instant Runoff Voting works much better. Why not implement that in the Next Society? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-ru…

You get the point. This is a time to voice your ideas. Refuse to remain silent. Do not be timid in these times, or you shall certainly find yourself living under a new tyranny with a different name.

The Next Society will soon arrive, and it is up to us to decide what to make of it.

“It’s time to celebrate our independence, and recognize our interdependence.” Remember that movie from a few years ago, Independence Day, that portrayed a horrific disasteroid scenario from the future? Well, it may certainly seem that such a future is in the offing, particularly with all the offing that’s being done right now. But that’s only if we follow the current script.

There’s a new movie in production called Interdependence Day where we humans write an entirely different story. In this one, when some celestial being asks, “How did the human race turn out?” we can proudly declare, “We won!”

Independence began with great promise. Eleven score and twelve years ago, America’s revolutionary founders cut us loose from the Old World model where the rule of gold overruled the Golden Rule, where mining took precedence (“that’s mine, that’s mine, that’s mine”), and the lowest common dominator was king. But the revolution was barely over before the devolution had begun, and 230 years later those same creeps we declared independence from have crept back into power.

We have a new King George who has overruled the rule of law, and this abuse is enabled by an unholy alliance of wholly-owned legislators who do the bidding of the highest bidder. The original multinational corporation, The British East India Company, has now spawned hundreds of imitators, many of whom are predators that live off shore and only come on shore to feed.
